Here is a closer look at the outfit I wore to Penneys (Primark to my UK readers) Press Day in Dublin on Tuesday. I went for a very casual take on the sports luxe trend. I loved this basketball jersey the moment I spotted it in Topshop a couple of weeks ago. I love the aerated sides and the bright yellow. It was a really warm day and I did a lot of walking so the outfit was perfect.

Penneys/ Primark AW'13 Press Day

 

From ladylike pastels to roughed up 90's grunge to baroque blacks, Penneys/Primark has plenty to offer for AW'13.

 

The Graceful Story takes influences from elegant, vintage ladylike with pretty pastels and blush-hued pieces. AW'13 boyfriend coats don't need to be sombre blacks and greys, this pink coat is perfect for lightening up your Winter wardrobe. While the Graceland story is feminine, the Penneys girl is not so soft, find pretty pastel pieces with leather piping or encrusted in jewels.

 

Gothic Glamour is all about excess! With influences from Dolce & Gabanna and Versace, the clothes, the accessories and the fabrics are ornate. Think Gatsby inspired baroque pieces in deep blacks with some shimmering golds and luxe leather-like dresses.

 

Highland Grunge gives a nod to Axel Rose with it's 90's urban aesthetic. Influenced by Cara Delevinge, Rihanna and Rita Ora, sports luxe trainers, woolly hats, leathers and tartans are key pieces. Biker jackets are given a longline tyle and jeans are given a rubber or waxy finish to give them a more grungy look.

 

Cyber Jungle is all about luxe fabrics. Sweatshirts replace Winter knits and are embellished or with lace overlays, anything but ordinary. Penneys has surpassed expectations with the quality of their fabrics this year. They have also been using real leather for the first time, and yet their prices remain unchanged.

Whether you prefer ethnic styles or vintage inspired jewels, accessories are worn in excess. Stacking is huge for AW'13, think rings and bracelets aplenty!

 

Cover up those pins in style this Winter with a great variety of trouser styles

 

Black is key for bags this season and find masculine pieces with these western ankle boots (my favourite from the collection) and this oversized bouclé boyfriend coat.

Xposé Magazine Feature June '13

Here is my latest feature, I'm very excited to be featured for the second time in one of my favourite magazines, Xposé Magazine. I love this magazine, and especially love this particular 'How We Wear It' feature which sees four bloggers style an outfit to fit a certain theme. This month we were asked to style our typical outfit for 'Summer in our City'. Here is what I wrote:

My go-to summer outfit has got to be high-waisted, 501’s style denim cut offs and a simple white tshirt. White tshirts and jeans/denim shorts is effortless  yet stylish and flattering. I love summer days in Galway, it’s the perfect city on a nice day as it is not too busy yet there is a bustling atmosphere the minute the sun shines.  A simple outfit which epitomises effortless chic is perfect for Galway. Cut off’s and a crisp white tshirt are perfect for shopping on a sunny day, it’s a light, casual and comfortable outfit.

As the outfit is so basic it gives you the perfect opportunity to add something different, I have added colour to my outfit with this yellow skinny belt which I picked up in Galway’s Portabello store for €2. I love wearing headbands and you can see how this suede and feathers headband transform the basic, polished look and gives it a bohemian, festival-like feel. When it comes to summer days in the city, sunglasses are a must. I chose these retro style frames to keep with the laid-back feel of the outfit. Summer for me is reminiscent of youth, fun and nonchalant dressing and I think this outfit embraces that.

Running Wild and Looking Pretty; Angela Scanlon

A Vogue style crush, presenter, writer, stylist, self-proclaimed tomboy who has received style acclaim from fashion’s elite, what’s not to envy love? Angela Scanlon has a resume, and a wardrobe, to assure her hot seat amongst fashion’s style icons.

 

 

 

 

Angela Scanlon appears regularly on Xposé, Off the Rails and Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, to name a few. She has interviewed the likes of Christian Louboutin and contributed to Grazia Daily, Tatler and the Sunday Independent. Yet her inspiring and ever-expanding resume is somewhat undermined by the style acclaim she has received in recent months. The porcelain beauty has been named the ‘one to watch for 2013’ by the Vogue magazine, The Observer has dubbed her as 2013’s onscreen fashion queen and she has stylishly graced the pages of both Vogue and ELLE Japan in recent months.

A strong rock n’ roll, urban aesthetic imbues in Scanlon's personal style. She can adapt a trend with her very own, epochal take like no other. She’s always on trend but her unruly self assures she gives the look her unique perspective, each trend is born anew in way only Angela Scanlon can pull off.  Her style exerts coolness and nonchalance, yet it is Vogue worthy. Back in April of this year, Scanlon landed her style portfolio on one of the most prestigious style features, Who What Wear’s Style Stalker. With the likes of Olivia Palermo and Miraslava Duma preceding her, she received the ultimate style acclaim by style’s hottest website.

 With a penchant for masculine pieces and tailored silhouettes, she perfectly teams a well cut dress or suit with a boyish biker jacket, opting to look a little more roughed up and a little less panache. Daring when it comes to prints, and an affinity to be unruly, she is fearless when it comes to styling. Her style is ever more amicable as she wears high street and vintage clothing and not merely designer pieces, yet what she does style resembles the silhouette of an entirely designer outfit. The designers she does wear are also quite affordable, think Cos and Maje, great tailoring and luxe fabrics.  

Scanlon has not instantaneously become a fashion-household name, she has worked and her work has been successful, but she is instantaneously likeable. Her website, humorous and well styled akin to herself, is always a great read. Her post, which she calls ‘rants’, are witty and intelligent, and again from a unique perspective. Flashback to her very first post where she vows her writing will be “real, raw, informative, but always honest”, she continues “If that’s not your thing, Drive On”. And there you have her, no fuss, no pretence, a real girl with real, intelligent perspectives. Scanlon has become a society It girl, a style icon, a friendly TV personality and an all-round girl crush, and she has done so by being her rock n’ roll, impeccably dressed and witty self.

White Luxe

I am loving the sports luxe trend this season and here is my understated take on it which I wore last week. Although the pieces aren't key pieces from the trend, these trainers from Topshop transform the look. They're my newest adored purchase, I was so excited to find them on Topshop. As you may know, if you are a regular reader of my blog, I adore Isabel Marant and especially love her sneakers. These trainers are very like her Baya style ones which are the newer high top style. I loved the older style which were the precursor of the hugely successful high top style on the high street, but I prefer this more slouchy and relaxed style. The ones I'm wearing are so similar to the Baya style (view them here).

This Zara skort (or Culottes) is yet another hugely successful style. I had them on my May Wishlist and was so excited to get them but they were sold out online at the time. As I have said previously, I try and stay away from pieces which everyone else is wearing and this skort is certainly one of them, it is hugely popular amongst bloggers and on Instagram. However I had been lusting after these for quite awhile and had to have them. I love wearing shorts (as aforementioned in my June Wishlist) and this style is so flattering and makes short shorts look that bit more elegant. Well as elegant as little white shorts can be I guess! This white tank top is by Rihanna for River Island, a collection, I'll admit, I was quite disappointed with, but this is a great basic. I can never have too many high neck white tshirts and tank tops. I have this blazer since last year, I actually featured it in my very first outfit post (see it here). A white or cream blazer is a wardrobe staple. I adore the caped look and as it was a hot yet breezy day, a caped blazer was perfect to compliment the outfit.

I always try to style pieces that are very popular, like this skort, it a little bit differently which is why I wore it for a daytime, relaxed, sports luxe look. An entirely white and cream outfit is of course a bit of a risk but I really liked the look of this outfit, especially in the sunshine. And I think the crispness of the white, along with the caped blazer, gives it a very luxe look.

I featured both this dress and platforms in my April Wishlist (see it here), but not in the actual Wishlist collage. I posted them as I had just purchased them together and loved how they looked together. I had been lusting after the wedges for some time and when I went into purchase them I spotted this dress and loved it. I adore the crochet waist. It is very short so I had to DIY a white slip for underneath but it was quite fitted so it sat very well.

 

I love the nude and cream palette of the outfit. It is a very typical Summer style and my Tiffany & Co. sunglasses were perfect for it. I love the shape of these sunglasses and they are so comfortable to wear. They were a gift from my boyfriend, Stiofán, last Summer and I am so happy to be getting wear out of them again now that we have some sunshine. I really like the simplicity of this outfit but added lashing of gold to break away from the prettiness slightly.
