Take a Boat Trip to the Blue Lagoon & Crystal Lagoon

If you’re going to Malta you’ll probably have heard, or soon hear of the Blue Lagoon. A boat trip here is not to be missed but I would say to also take a small trip to the Crystal Lagoon while you’re out on the water - it really is crystal clear water! The lagoons are situated just off Comino, a tiny unspoilt island in between Malta and Gozo. The rugged coastline and crystal clear water is a view not to be missed if you visit Malta. We took a private boat to Gozo via the the Crystal Lagoon and Blue Lagoon and jumped off the boat for a swim in the Blue Lagoon. Make sure to pack a bikini and a towel as you’ll want to jump in once you’re there.

Visit Gozo

Visiting the nearby island of Gozo is a must and I would highly recommend getting the private boat trip (mentioned above) there and you can get the ferry back in the evening (expect long queues for there ferry). I’ve heard from quite a few people that they prefer Gozo to Malta but I’m sure I agree, they’re both really beautiful. When in Gozo I would highly recommend having lunch in Kartell restaurant which is in Marsalforn, Gozo’s main seaside town. The food here was amazing and we had a really lovely table right on the coastline.

Stroll through the ‘Silent City’ Mdina 

If you’re a fan of Games of Thrones you won’t want to miss stopping by the ‘Silent City’, the first season of the series was filmed there. I’ve actually never even seen the show but I did really enjoy a stroll around Mdina. The building are so beautiful and like most of Malta - it’s completely unspoilt.

Popeye Village 

Popeye Village wasn’t exactly on our itinerary but I made it quite clear to our tour guide I wasn’t going to leave without visiting it! The village was actually built as the film set for the 1980’s Popeye movie but the film set was never taken back down. It’s now one of Malta’s biggest tourist attractions. Sadly we didn’t have time to go inside but I was still so excited to see it and it’s situated in a really beautiful part of the island.

Visit the Barrakka Gardens Terrace in Valletta

Valletta is Malta’s capital city so I’m sure you’ll be visiting if you’re in Malta. It’s such a beautiful city, I could have walked around all day admiring the Baroque architecture and unspoilt streets. While you’re there be sure to stop by the the Barrakka Gardens to enjoy the view of the port of Valletta.

Take a Water Taxi 

After enjoying the sights from the terrace take the lift down to the waterfront and grab a ‘dghajsa’ - a traditional Maltese ‘water taxi’. I think it’s something like €2 for a quick trip around the bay so be sure not to miss it.

Where to stay

We stayed in the Corinthia St. George which is a 5* hotel beside the sea (a rocky coastline, not a beach). The hotel has a two large pool areas and loads of sun loungers which is a huge advantage especially if you are visiting in he summer months. We also dined in one of their restaurants Caviar & Bull on the final night and it was so good. If you do happen to visit do not leave without getting an Espresso Martini - trust me!
